Why Dostall Beef? At Dostall Farms we are committed to raising the highest quality beef products, period, there is no other way to say it. Our three point approach of quality breed, quality feed, and low stress environment insure it.
Let’s look at all three, first breed. At Dostall Farms we use beef breeds such as, but not limited to, Angus, Simmental, Hereford, Limousine, and Maine Angus. The reason the breed is so important is quality of the finished product. Beef cattle tend to produce large tender steaks, the right amount of marbling, and a delicate flavor. Beef cattle also yield more consumable product per animal, compared to dairy breeds, such as a Holstein. Next is a quality feed program. At Dostall Farms we use a free choice system. The cows have grain and hay in front of them at all times. We do not use steroids or hormones. The animal manages its own diet. If it’s hungry for grass, then it eats grass. We have found that this is the best way to feed cattle. The third and final part of the three point approach is low stress environment. Our cattle have constant access to clean, fresh water. All of their dietary needs are met with quality grain and grass. We do not overcrowd our cattle into small barns that can become hot in the summer months. Manure is cleaned from pens on a regular basis and hauled off site. Removing manure reduces flies which can cause stress to cattle. Every effort is made to produce a stress free environment.
